Is It Time For A Service? Ask Our Auto Electrician

December 4, 2020

We are leading heavy equipment auto electricians in Illawarra, and a common question we are asked by our customers is when their equipment service is due.

Figuring out if needs a service is easy, but how do you know if a trailer needs a service, or a digger, or if plant machinery needs a service?

Here is some information to help you keep on track with maintaining your heavy machinery.

What is Your Machine’s Output?

Let’s say you have a machine that chops up wood and turns it into pressed boards.

Using what you know about the machine, can you figure out how many times it has done its job based on how many units it has created.

Perhaps you can work out how much work it has done based on how long it has been in operation, and by how many total hours of work it has done.

Find a way to measure these metrics, and then set up a service schedule based on the device's work output.

Maybe every time it reaches an output of 50,000, you have the device serviced. Or, maybe you have it serviced after it has been operational for 17,500 hours.

What Does the Manufacturer Say

Even if your machinery is custom-made, your manufacturer should be able to advise you as to how often the device will need servicing.

After all, the manufacturer knows the components, knows how much stress they are under, and knows how quickly they eat up consumables.

If the manufacturer is selling parts for your machinery, then you should at least be able to find out when such parts are often needed.

You can also find out what sort of timing metric the company uses. For example, they may say that certain parts last X-amount of years, or X-amount of uses and so forth. You can then use their timing metric to schedule your own services.

The key is to avoid waiting for a problem to occur because it is often cheaper to find a fault before it becomes a problem.

Keep Your Own Schedule

Before you go looking for heavy equipment auto electricians in Illawarra , try to figure out your own schedule if you cannot figure out how much your equipment has been used.
